[Saba Sports News] In what is emerging as positive news from the Bangladesh camp, their captain Shakib Al Hasan is fit enough to start in the ODI World Cup 2023.
Shakib had injured himself while playing football, leading up to Bangladesh’s first warm-up game against Sri Lanka. He has not featured in both the practice matches and there were reports that he could miss out on Bangladesh’s World Cup campaign-opener, scheduled versus Afghanistan on October 7.
However, there is no such issue with Shakib’s fitness and he will be seen playing against Afghanistan, informed his deputy Najmul Hossain Shanto.
“Shakib Al Hasan is ‘100% fine’ and ‘will be available’ for Bangladesh’s first match of the ODI World Cup against Afghanistan on October 7 in Dharamsala,” Shanto said as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
There was already a lot of turmoil in the Bangladeshi team with Shakib being at the centre of it. His injury added to the woes, but as the all-rounder is now confirmed to be available right from the first match, this is a welcome development for Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are playing against England in their second warm-up encounter. At the time of writing, Bangladesh have scored 153 runs in 30 overs at the loss of five wickets.
