Jay Shah, the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), announced a $50,000 prize for the ground staff and curators in Kandy and Colombo on the day of the Asia Cup 2023 final.
Following India’s ten-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the final, heartwarming pictures captured the ground staff celebrating with their prize money cheque on the field.
Mohammed Siraj, who bowled exceptionally well in the final with figures of 6/21, acknowledged the crucial role played by the groundsmen during the tournament. During the post-match presentation, he announced that he would donate his Player of the Match prize money of $5,000 to the ground staff, a gesture that earned him widespread praise in the cricket community.
With their eighth Asia Cup title secured, India will now shift their focus to a three-match series against Australia at home, serving as their final preparation for the upcoming ODI World Cup.
