[Saba Sports News] The NBA handed Miami Heat’s Thomas Bryant a three-game suspension for his role in a brawl during a recent game against the New Orleans Pelicans, a decision that left the 26-year-old center surprised. The incident occurred during the Heat’s visit to the Pelicans at the Smoothie King Center, where Bryant was involved in a physical exchange with Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado.
Bryant, addressing the media on Sunday, expressed his astonishment at the suspension’s severity, asserting he intended to act as a mediator in the conflict. However, the visual evidence of the altercation makes it challenging to view Bryant as a pacifying force.
This suspension is particularly untimely for Bryant, as he was set to receive his 2023 NBA championship ring during the Heat’s upcoming game against the Denver Nuggets, where he played 18 games last season. Despite the setback, Bryant remains hopeful of receiving his ring, though it will not be in the ceremonial context he envisioned at Denver’s Ball Arena.
In the meantime, Heat teammate Jimmy Butler, also suspended due to the brawl, sought to lighten the mood with comedic posts on social media. With Butler, Bryant, and forward Nikola Jovic serving their suspensions, the Heat will face the Sacramento Kings short-handed in their next matchup.
