[Saba Sports News] Australia wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey has no hard feelings for his captain Pat Cummins, who deprived him of a century in his side’s win over New Zealand in Christchurch on Monday.
Chasing 279 runs, Australia were languishing at 220/7. However, Carey and Cummins combined to take them home with their unbeaten 61-run partnership, which not only won the Test match but also the series.
With two needed for a win, Cummins smashed a boundary as Carey remained not-out on 98.
Speaking after the match, the Aussie skipper shared that he was not aware of Carey’s score moments before the victory.
“I had no idea he was on 98! That would have been embarrassing if he was celebrating (his ton) and I wasn’t looking,” Cummins said as quoted.
Carey, who went on to win the Player of the Match award, seemed more than satisfied in Cummins scoring the winning hit.
“I was happy with that. I didn’t want to get on strike again,” Carey shared.
With this win, Australia have cemented their second place on the WTC points table.
