[Saba Sports News] It appears that Billy Donovan is not at risk of losing his position as head coach of the Chicago Bulls anytime soon. According to Chicago Bulls insider KC Johnson from NBC Sports Chicago, Donovan’s job security remains intact. Johnson reports that Donovan is well-regarded by the Bulls’ ownership and management, despite the team’s current struggles with a 5-13 record this year. However, Johnson suggests there could be potential changes in Donovan’s coaching staff.
Donovan, 58, is in his fourth season with the Bulls, but his tenure has been marked by a subpar record of 122-132 and only one playoff game win. This is in spite of having a roster that includes former All-Stars like Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Nikola Vucevic, along with valuable role players such as Alex Caruso, Patrick Williams, and Coby White. There have also been indications of some discord between Donovan and one of the players.
Despite these challenges, Donovan has a history of success with the Oklahoma City Thunder and the University of Florida. The primary issue for the Bulls seems to be the incompatibility of their star players. Considering Donovan signed an extension with Chicago in 2022, and he still has several years left on his contract, a significant trade might be a more likely course of action than a change in head coach.
