[Saba Sports News] Afghanistan’s celebrated cricketer, Rashid Khan, recently underwent minor back surgery, prompting his teammate Mujeeb Ur Rahman to express hopes for a rapid recovery. Rashid, known as the world’s top T20 bowler, was preparing for his seventh season with the Adelaide Strikers in the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL). He played a key role in Afghanistan’s strong performance in the World Cup held in India and had considered skipping the BBL as a protest against the cancellation of Australia’s ODI series with Afghanistan.
However, now sidelined by his recovery from surgery, Mujeeb, a close friend of Rashid, shared a heartfelt message on social media, wishing Rashid a quick recovery. He posted a picture of Rashid with the caption, “May Allah give you a speedy recovery, get well soon Champion @rashidkhan_19.”
In the BBL draft for the 2023/2024 season, Rashid and Harry Brook were top selections. Rashid continued with Adelaide Strikers, while Melbourne Stars picked Brook. Rashid’s significant contributions during Afghanistan’s ODI World Cup journey were instrumental in their bid for the Champions Trophy.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) released a statement about Rashid’s condition, confirming that the wrist spinner had a minor lower-back surgery in the UK and is expected to make a quick recovery. The ACB highlighted Rashid’s crucial role in wins against teams like England and Pakistan in the World Cup and commended Dr. James Alibone, the surgeon responsible for Rashid’s operation.
The ACB’s statement on X read, “Afghanistan’s cricket sensation, @rashidkhan_19, underwent a minor lower back surgery with the expertise of renowned surgeon Dr. James Alibone in the UK. He has been rested for a brief while and is expected to recover soon.”
