[Saba Sports News] In a surprising move, Delhi Capitals (DC) are gearing up to release their opening batter Prithvi Shaw ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Reports suggest a potential trade that would see Shaw donning the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) jersey in the upcoming IPL season.
Shaw faced a significant dip in form during the last edition of the IPL, leaving both his fans and himself disheartened with a lackluster performance. In eight matches of the 2023 IPL, he could only manage to score 106 runs at an average of 13.25.
Contrastingly, his standout season was in 2021, where the hard-hitting batter amassed 479 runs in 15 matches, boasting an average of 31.93 and an impressive strike-rate of 159.13.
Examining his overall IPL stats, Shaw has participated in 71 matches, accumulating 1,694 runs with an average of 23.86 and a strike-rate of 145.78 since making his debut in 2018, when Delhi Capitals (formerly Delhi Daredevils) secured him for 1.2 crores.
Despite his rare talent, Shaw faced a setback in IPL 2023, leading to his mid-season exclusion from the playing XI. England’s Philip Salt took over the opening duties alongside David Warner, seizing the opportunity with exemplary performances.
On the flip side, Sunrisers Hyderabad faced a challenging IPL 2023, finishing at the bottom of the points table. Notably, the team experimented with as many as seven opening pairs throughout the season.
With the addition of the 24-year-old Shaw, Hyderabad aims to stabilize their opening combination, pairing him with a promising talent, Abhishek Sharma, who showcased his brilliance in the recently-concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
