[Saba Sports News] Under Harmanpreet Kaur’s leadership, Mumbai Indians clinched the title in the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) season. With strategic new signings from the players’ auction, they’re set to defend their championship this year. Their opening game against Delhi Capitals on February 23 at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium is a rematch of the previous final, which Mumbai won by seven wickets.
As the WPL 2024 approaches, Mumbai Indians’ players and coaching staff are gearing up with pre-season training. The team, including Trupti Bhattacharya (team manager), Stacey-Lee Hercules (strength and conditioning coach), Kiran More (general manager for cricket operations), Benjamin Hoppitt (data analyst), Elyse Potter (physiotherapist), Lydia Greenway (fielding coach), Devieka Palshikaar (batting coach), Jhulan Goswami (team mentor and bowling coach), and Charlotte Edwards (head coach), has convened for the camp.
Players like Jintimani Kalita, Saika Ishaque, Fatima Jaffer, S Sajana, B Keerthana, and the seasoned Amanjot Kaur have arrived. The prestigious tournament, hosted by Bengaluru and Delhi, will feature the five teams from last year. Matches up to March 4 will occur at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, with the remainder at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. The schedule includes 22 matches, culminating in the final on March 17, with all games starting at 7:30 PM IST and no double-headers.
