[Saba Sports News] On January 23, Hyderabad hosted the Naman Awards, attended by notable past and present Indian cricketers. The event, organized by the BCCI, honored former India player and coach Ravi Shastri with the Col CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award. Alongside Shastri, ex-India wicketkeeper Farokh Engineer also received the accolade.
Shastri, who played 230 international matches for India, was part of the 1983 World Cup-winning squad. His coaching tenure saw India achieve significant successes, including reaching the World Test Championship Final in 2021 and the 2019 World Cup semi-finals. Reflecting on his 40-year career in various roles, including player, commentator, and coach, Shastri shared his most cherished moments.
He highlighted the 1983 World Cup victory, MS Dhoni’s winning six in the 2011 World Cup, the 2007 T20 World Cup triumph, and his individual performances in international cricket. However, he particularly emphasized India’s Test win at the Gabba in 2021 as a pinnacle moment.
At the event, Shastri expressed his gratitude to his players for their role in the memorable Gabba Test victory during the 2020-21 Australia tour, where India overcame numerous challenges to clinch the series 2-1 with a three-wicket win in the final match.
