[Saba Sports News] A speculative trade scenario for the Los Angeles Lakers to acquire Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray has emerged this week.
Jovan Buha of The Athletic reported on a specific trade proposal recently discussed between the Lakers and Hawks. This deal would send Murray to the Lakers in return for D’Angelo Russell, rookie Jalen Hood-Schifino, a 2029 first-round draft pick, and other draft assets.
Buha noted that these trade talks took place last week but have since paused. However, discussions are anticipated to resume as the Feb. 8 trade deadline approaches, according to Buha.
Murray, 27, an ex-All-Star signed through 2028, is currently a top trade target for the Lakers. His skill set as a scorer, playmaker, and defender is highly sought after by the team, and he is also represented by Klutch Sports, the same agency as LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and several Lakers players.
However, the Hawks, likely looking to sell at the trade deadline with a 17-23 record, might find a better offer than what the Lakers proposed. Russell is considered a temporary solution, and there’s a chance he could be traded again if acquired by Atlanta. Additionally, the proposed trade doesn’t involve any high-potential Lakers players or notable secondary assets like Rui Hachimura or Max Christie.
The Lakers might increase their offer with the deadline weeks away. But without an improved proposal, the Hawks may consider trading the 21-points-per-game scorer Murray to another team in the Western Conference.
