[Saba Sports News] David Warner recently made a grand entrance via helicopter at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) for the Big Bash League (BBL) Sydney Smash. The match, a key face-off between Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers, is scheduled for January 12, Friday.
Initially, Warner was to land at the nearby Allianz Stadium. However, after his brother’s wedding in Hunter Valley, he quickly headed to Cessnock airport to participate in this match, marking his first competitive game since retiring from Test and ODI cricket. The BBL’s official X (formerly Twitter) account shared a video of Warner’s arrival, highlighting the unique entrance.
For this season, Warner will play three games with Sydney Thunder. He signed a two-year deal with the team before the last BBL season for a significant sum. Despite only one win in seven games, placing them seventh in the eight-team league, Warner’s participation is highly anticipated.
However, he will soon leave for the ILT20 in UAE, limiting his availability for the Thunder. Following the ILT20, Warner is expected to join the Australian T20I squad for a series against West Indies, possibly continuing in T20s until the ICC T20 World Cup in June, held in the West Indies and USA.
Meanwhile, the Sydney Sixers, currently third in the league with four wins in eight games, are looking to secure a playoff spot. With Steven Smith on their team, the Sixers, led by Moises Henriques, are gearing up for a strong performance in the upcoming game.
