[Saba Sports News] Recently, Son Woong-jung, the
father of Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min, was interviewed by the media
regarding his views on the South Korean team’s chances of winning the Asian
Cup. He expressed his belief that winning the championship in the Asian Cup
would be challenging for Korean due to the current overall strength of the
team, which he feels is still inferior to that of the Japanese team. Son
Woong-jung stated, “When it comes to individual player skills, it is
evident that Korean is not on par with Japan. Our football players need to
reflect. In terms of skill training and investment, Korean football is clearly
lagging behind Japan. We haven’t won the Asian Cup for 64 years.” Son
Woong-jung himself had played as a forward and gained popularity during his
high school years. He was also selected for the second team of the Korean
Olympic Games. However, his football career was cut short due to an Achilles
tendon rupture. The editor believes that Son Heung-min’s success in the Premier
League can be attributed, in part, to having a father who continually pushes
him, instills humility, and maintains his motivation. This aspect is worthy of
praise.
