Sports News] According to British media reports, the official ball for the 2024
European Championship will be equipped with a built-in chip. This chip, in
conjunction with relevant body tracking technology, aims to assist referees in
making more accurate decisions regarding handballs and offside situations. The
reports suggest that the ball’s built-in chip, along with body tracking and 3D
vision technology, allows the computer to precisely display the ball’s physical
position in relation to the players. This technology is considered to be more
advanced and precise than the current implementation of VAR. Furthermore, the
built-in chip can accurately determine the exact time the ball was kicked,
aiding in the determination of potential offside situations. Similar technology
was already utilized in the previous year’s World Cup in Qatar. It remains
uncertain whether this technology-rich ball will be used in the UEFA Champions
League in the upcoming season due to its high cost. While advancements in
technology have provided fans with more information regarding game penalties,
controversies surrounding these decisions have not diminished. It would be
interesting to hear the opinions of fans regarding this new technology.
