[Saba Sports News] In a dazzling display of skill and determination, India wicket-keeper and middle-order batter KL Rahul once again proved his mettle during the encounter against the Netherlands at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru in the final league match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
Stepping in when India were already in a formidable position, Rahul showcased his prowess by ensuring the target surged beyond 400. The hometown hero exhibited his stylish batting, crafting a scintillating innings of 102 runs off just 64 balls, boasting an impressive strike rate of 159.38. His innings included a stunning array of 11 fours and four sixes.
Rahul’s sensational speed in reaching his seventh ODI hundred in a mere 62 balls surpassed the previous record set by Rohit Sharma earlier in the same World Cup. While Rohit achieved a 63-ball century against Afghanistan, Rahul’s century now stands as the fastest by an Indian in the ODI World Cup history.
Additionally, Rahul secured the second-highest score by an India wicket-keeper in an ODI World Cup match, trailing only behind Rahul Dravid’s historic 145 runs against Sri Lanka in the 1999 edition of the tournament.
Throughout the ongoing World Cup, Rahul’s consistency has been a key asset for the Indian team, amassing a total of 347 runs in nine innings at an impressive average of nearly 70.
Adding to India’s formidable total against the Netherlands, Shreyas Iyer joined the centurion club with an electrifying knock of an unbeaten 128 runs in 94 balls, featuring 10 fours and five magnificent sixes. Together, Rahul and Iyer orchestrated a commanding performance, propelling India to a formidable total of 410 runs.
