This is the penultimate round of the
2024 Euro qualifiers. The top two teams from each group will directly advance
to the main tournament. In Group D, Turkey has accumulated 16 points and is
highly likely to secure the top spot. Croatia and Wales are both tied with 10
points and have a chance to compete for the remaining qualifying spot. Armenia,
with only seven points, has little hope of advancing.
Armenia are a relatively weak team. In
the recent European Championships, they have performed poorly and failed to
reach the main tournament. In this qualifying round, Armenia has recorded two
wins, one draw, and three losses. Looking at the statistics, the team has
scored eight goals and conceded nine goals. Although their performance has been
average, they have conceded goals in all six qualifying matches, indicating
defensive weaknesses. In terms of tactics, the team primarily focuses on
defensive counterattacks, relying on wing breakthroughs to create
opportunities. Unfortunately, they lack a strong presence
in the centre, with their main striker Lucas Zelarayán standing at only 1.73
meters tall. It is evident that Armenia have tactical flaws.
Wales have recently regained form, winning their
last home match 2-1 against Croatia, a contender for the qualifying spot. They
are currently unbeaten in four matches across various competitions. Looking at
their squad for this round, most players come from the English Premier League
and the Championship. Notably, Ben Davies from Tottenham Hotspur and Harry
Wilson from Fulham are the most well-known. Brennan Johnson, who missed the
previous round due to injury, has returned, but former Arsenal star Aaron
Ramsey surprisingly did not make the squad. Brennan Johnson is considered
Wales’ rising star, and his value has already risen to 48 million euros, with
the potential to become the next Gareth Bale. In terms of tactics, the team
maintains a strategy of ball possession. In their away match against Latvia,
Wales had a 58% ball possession rate and created 27 scoring opportunities.
In terms of individual
skills, Wales outperform Armenia, and in terms of tournament experience, Wales
have a slight advantage. Considering that Armenia are currently on a
losing streak while Wales are on a winning streak, and with both teams’
form contrasting, it is believed that Wales will not miss the opportunity to
claim all 3 points.
