[Saba Sports News] Australia’s Aaron Finch announced his retirement from the Big Bash League (BBL), sharing that he will hang up his boots at the end of the ongoing season.
Finch has been a part of the Melbourne Renegades ever since the BBL started. He led the team to their only title in 2018-19.
He is the second-highest run-scorer in the BBL history. In 106 matches, he has smashed 3,311 runs, including two hundreds.
While the announcement is only related to his BBL career, it is highly likely that Finch will no longer feature in other leagues as well.
“There’ve been some real lows but great highs [too], and I’ve loved every bit of the journey; no moment can compare to winning the BBL title. That, for me, was very special, and something I’ll remember. I’m really proud to have played at one club for the entirety of my career. The Renegades have been a huge part of my life, and I’m so grateful for everything they’ve given me,” Finch said as quoted by ESPNCricinfo
“To everyone who’s been part of the journey with me – our members, fans, supporters, my team-mates and all who have had a part to play at the club at all levels – thank you,” he added.
As the Renegades are unlikely to make the playoffs of BBL|13, the side plans to give Finch a hero’s farewell, considering a thought to play him in the match scheduled against Melbourne Stars on January 13.
