[Saba Sports News] Few expected the West Indies to triumph on their two-Test tour of Australia. Despite a valiant effort, Kraigg Brathwaite’s team couldn’t capitalize on key moments in the Adelaide opener, succumbing to a 10-wicket loss. Yet, undeterred by the initial defeat, they impressively won the second Test in Brisbane by eight runs, marking their first Test victory on Australian soil in 27 years.
This historic achievement saw the emergence of a new hero, 24-year-old Shamar Joseph. Excelling in the series, he claimed 13 wickets at an average of 17.31, ranking second only to Josh Hazlewood’s 14 wickets. Joseph’s debut in Adelaide was memorable, taking Steve Smith’s wicket with his first delivery and securing a five-wicket haul. His standout performance came on Day 4 of the Brisbane Test, where he took six wickets in a single session and secured the match-winning wicket of Hazlewood.
Australian captain Pat Cummins celebrated Joseph’s performance, posting a photo on Instagram with the caption, “Helluva debut series @shamarjoseph7. Already a superstar, well played.” The image showed the two exchanging jerseys.
This victory boosts West Indies’ confidence as they move to ODIs and T20Is against Australia, with the first ODI set for Melbourne on February 2.
