For Bangladesh’s forthcoming home series against Sri
Lanka, Shakib Al Hasan has been left out of the ODI and T20I squads due to an
eye ailment. But on the same day that the selectors revealed the teams for the
Sri Lanka series, Shakib played for Rangpur Riders in the BPL in Chattogram,
scoring an explosive 31 runs off of 31 balls.
Shakib reportedly said that his inability to bat well
was a problem; in recent games, he dropped down the Rangpur order before
climbing back up.
Minhajul Abedin, the chief selector, chose his final
squads during his eight-year tenure. He will step down from his position on
February 28. Six changes were made, although Mehidy Hasan Miraz, the vice
captain of the T20I team, was left out. Rony Talukdar, Hasan Mahmud, Tanvir
Islam, Afif Hossain, and Shamim Hossain were also omitted.
Instead, the return of Mahmudullah, Taijul Islam,
Taskin Ahmed, Mohammad Naim, and Anamul Haque was made. Aliss Al Islam, a
mystery spinner who is now playing for the Comilla Victorians in the BPL,
received his first call-up to the national team.
After more than a year, Mahmudullah made his T20I
comeback. He has already struck two fifties for Fortune Barishal this BPL
season. Nonetheless, Mahmudullah has been a consistent member of the ODI squad,
missing only the December tour to New Zealand. The T20I team also included
Taijul Islam and Taskin Ahmed. But there was no room for Hasan Mahmud, Afif
Hossain, or Rakibul Hasan. Afif and Mahmud were dropped from both white-ball
teams, and Rakibul is a promising young left-arm spinner.
Bangladesh will take on Sri Lanka in three Twenty20
Internationals (T20Is) in Sylhet on March 4, 6, and 9. The dates of the ODIs
are March 13, 15, and 18 in Chattogram.
