[Saba Sports News] Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha expressed his responsibility for the team’s struggles in the ICC World Cup but attributed their underperformance to high expectations. Bangladesh started the tournament with optimism but have suffered six consecutive defeats.
Hathurusingha acknowledged his responsibility, saying, “I take responsibility as well as anyone in the team. We have disappointed the fans and ourselves. We didn’t play our best cricket.”
He suggested that the team’s high expectations may have affected their performance, stating, “Our skill hasn’t gone anywhere. We have put ourselves down with high expectations. Players want to perform at the biggest stage. Maybe we are trying to do too much.”
Hathurusingha rejected the idea that constantly changing the batting order was a significant factor, saying, “One more batter could have made things complicated. When we selected this team before the World Cup, we thought they were the best performers.”
He hinted at time constraints for preparation, explaining, “I started seven months ago, so I had seven months. Certain things beyond my control happened in between as well. I don’t think this is the right time for me to think or discuss.”
Hathurusingha emphasized his focus on the upcoming game and creating a stress-free environment for the players. He mentioned that his real work would begin after the World Cup in terms of team development.
