[Saba Sports News] The Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) has addressed the confusion that arose when two teams appeared for the Ranji Trophy match against Mumbai. The controversy began when ex-secretary Amit Kumar named a team for the match, resulting in two Bihar teams showing up at the Moin-ul-Haq Stadium in Patna. The official Bihar team, however, managed to reduce Mumbai to 235/9 on the opening day.
Om Prakash Jaiswal, a district representative of the BCA, clarified that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had authorized Bihar’s original team to play. He accused Amit Kumar of forming an illegitimate squad and attempting to disrupt the match. However, security measures ensured the official team played against Mumbai.
“BCCI approved Bihar’s genuine team. A fake team was organized by former secretary Amit Kumar, but our security prevented any issues. The real Bihar team is now competing against Mumbai,” Om Prakash Jaiswal commented to NDTV.
BCA CEO Manish Raj also discussed the state of the stadium used for the match, noting its quality and the ongoing search for a new site for a dedicated BCA stadium. He praised the playing ground and mentioned that even the match referee acknowledged its condition.
“People attempted to cause a dispute, but the authentic team is playing, and Bihar’s performance, especially taking 9 wickets against a strong team like Mumbai on the first day, is historic. It’s been a long time since Bihar played in the elite group, particularly against a champion team like Mumbai. It’s surprising that someone else claimed to be the secretary when we already have an official one,” he added.
It’s important to note that Amit’s relationship with the BCA president deteriorated in 2022 due to his alleged association with a rival faction, leading to his suspension and subsequent disassociation from the BCA.
