[Saba Sports News] The current Test series between India and England is progressing, with India leading 2-1. Under Ben Stokes’ captaincy, England secured a convincing victory in the opening Test but couldn’t maintain their momentum in the subsequent matches. A contentious moment occurred in the third Test when England’s Zak Crawley was given out LBW in a decision that sparked debate.
Stokes suggested eliminating the umpire’s call following the incident, a view that didn’t resonate well with ex-Australian player Brad Hogg. Hogg argued for retaining the umpire’s call, emphasizing the need to balance technology’s slight inaccuracies with human judgment.
Hogg commented, criticizing the complaints about the Decision Review System (DRS) and highlighting its fairness to all teams. He also discussed Stokes’ capabilities as a bowler, advising caution to prevent injury, especially with the T20 World Cup on the horizon.
“For me, the more I think about it, the more I feel umpires call should be in there because the technology is slightly wrong. I understand it might have cost England at some important stage, but it could cost the opposition too. Stop whingeing about the DRS. It’s the same for both sides,” Hogg shared on his YouTube channel.
Hogg praised the proactive approach of the coaching and medical staff in managing Stokes’ workload. As England prepares for the fourth Test against India, Stokes’ role as a bowler could prove crucial in their bid to even the series.
“Ben Stokes’ bowling is good for England, but they don’t want to push him too hard. If he injures his knee again and with the T20 World Cup coming up if he is not their premium all-rounder, it’s going to be costly. Good to see the coach and medical staff stepping in and taking control,” added Hogg.
