[Saba Sports News] Carmelo Anthony, the 10-time All-Star, revealed a near comeback with the New Orleans Pelicans before deciding to retire. Anthony shared this information in a preview clip for the debut episode of his new podcast, “7 PM in Brooklyn,” co-hosted with The Kid Mero, known from “Desus and Mero.”
In the clip, Anthony mentioned that the Pelicans had expressed interest in him before his official retirement announcement. He also noted some interest from China. The Pelicans playfully acknowledged this in a post on their social media, hinting at their previous interest in him.
Anthony, at 39, retired after a 19-season NBA career. He was last active in the 2021-22 season with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he averaged 13.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game as a reserve. It remains unclear whether the Pelicans’ interest was during the last season or for the upcoming one. Anthony’s potential inclusion in the team could have been a strategic move, considering Zion Williamson’s uncertain availability and the team’s injury struggles.
Notably, Anthony and New Orleans star CJ McCollum were former teammates in Portland.
