[Saba Sports News] Kolkata Knight Riders, a two-time IPL champion, made a significant move by signing Mitchell Starc for an impressive INR 24.75 crore for IPL 2024, making him the highest-paid cricketer in the tournament’s history. Following closely is Pat Cummins, who was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 20.50 crore, becoming the second-highest earner in the competition.
Former cricketer Chris Morris commented on these high-value signings, acknowledging the pressure that comes with such hefty price tags but expressing confidence in their ability to handle it. He noted that while the bidding process is beyond anyone’s control, it’s positive to see top cricketers being rewarded financially, especially given their current form. “It is excellent. The bidding is out of our control… They (Cummins and Starc) are performing really well right now and are red-hot,” Morris was quoted by NewsX.
Morris also touched on the recent controversy surrounding the second Test between South Africa and India at Newlands, which concluded in less than two days. India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, defended the pitch, stating that his team had no issues playing on it and expected similar respect for spin-friendly pitches in the subcontinent.
Morris agreed with Sharma’s stance against the double standards and expressed a desire for more competitive cricket. He wished for a scenario where South African captain Dean Elgar could lead his team to victory, acknowledging the inherent nature of cricket where one team must lose.
