Gujarat Giants, who
have made three attempts to score, will face Delhi Capitals in their final
match of the Bengaluru leg of the 2024 WPL. They will have their work cut out
for them.
GG captain Beth Mooney has opened with three different partners in three
outings, and only the final pair—Laura Wolvaardt—has worked for them. However,
that also meant that Lea Tahuhu, an accomplished pacer, was dropped. However,
the Giants appeared to have finally narrowed down their starting lineup for the
time being following a number of significant injury setbacks prior to the
season.
Delhi has routinely
used an all-capped lineup, just as they did the previous season. Following two
mediocre performances, the Capitals benched Annabel Sutherland and replaced her
with left-arm spin all-rounder Jess Jonassen. Jonassen and Marizanne Kapp proved
the call with an all-around performance that won the game. DC’s early success
in the league has been largely attributed to the South African pacer’s periods,
both with and without the ball. Two of their top three scorers, Alice Capsey
and Shafali Verma, are among the top five run scorers so far.
Meg Lanning &
Co. will be feeling good after winning two straight games, including one
against the hosts RCB in which they reached the highest total of the season
(194) and raced to the top of the table—barring the last-ball loss in the
tournament opener. Even though MI’s victory over RCB last night knocked them
off the top spot, DC will be looking to keep winning and maintain their
position close to the top against a poor Gujarat team.
