[Saba Sports News] Since making his debut against West Indies in July 2024, India’s prodigious talent Yashasvi Jaiswal has swiftly ascended in his international cricket career. The left-handed batsman made a memorable entrance, scoring 171 runs off 387 balls in his debut match. At just 22, Jaiswal recently etched his name in the record books as the third youngest Indian to notch a double century in a Test, achieving this milestone during the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam.
Dilip Vengsarkar, a former Indian captain, reminisced about Jaiswal’s early days, highlighting his evident determination and talent even at a young age. He shared his experience of taking a young Jaiswal to England, where the youngster impressed with consistent performances across matches, indicating early signs of his promising future. Vengsarkar, delighted by Jaiswal’s rapid rise to prominence, also noted his leadership role at Dadar Union, a club where Vengsarkar himself had played for decades.
Jaiswal has become a crucial player in the ongoing Test series against England, leading as the top scorer with 321 runs in four innings, including a double century and a half-century. His 209 in Visakhapatnam’s first innings stood out, especially when other batsmen struggled.
Vengsarkar also discussed other emerging talents like Rajat Patidar and Sarfaraz Khan, emphasizing the importance of timely opportunities for young cricketers to showcase their form and talent. Sarfaraz Khan, who was called up for the Indian team as a replacement for the injured KL Rahul, awaits his debut opportunity, possibly in the remaining matches of the series, as questions linger over Virat Kohli’s return.
