Sports News] According to reports from Italian media, the European Super League
is contemplating taking legal action against UEFA. The European Super League
believes that UEFA’s actions in preventing them from launching new competitions
in 2021 constitute antitrust behavior. Last year, the Court of Justice of the
European Union ruled in favor of the European Super League in an antitrust
case, deeming UEFA and FIFA’s regulations prohibiting the league’s
establishment in 2021 as illegal. As a result, the European Super League is
planning to file a lawsuit seeking compensation of up to 3.6 billion euros. It
is stated that UEFA blocked the organization of the Super League event,
resulting in the denial of the applied loan, termination of the originally
anticipated broadcasting, matchday, and commercial revenues, leading to a loss
of at least 3.1 billion euros. The Court of Justice of the European Union’s
ruling last year confirmed the European Super League’s victory in the antitrust
case, further underscoring the illegality of UEFA and FIFA’s regulations
preventing the league’s launch in 2021.
