[Saba Sports News] Former Liverpool
goalkeeper Chris Kirkland gave an interview to The Athletic, revealing his
experience of becoming addicted to painkillers due to injuries. It turns out
that Kirkland struggled with an addiction to the painkiller tramadol for six
years after retiring, and only managed to completely quit last year. In the
world of football, the use of tramadol is very common. It is used to alleviate
various moderate to severe acute and chronic pain. Its analgesic strength is
about one-tenth that of morphine, and it is a centrally acting synthetic
painkiller. However, the World Anti-Doping Agency has announced that tramadol
will be officially banned from use starting on January 1st next year.
