[Saba Sports News] Former India cricketer Irfan Pathan expressed his shock behind Ishan Kishan’s continued absence from competitive cricket.
As reports of Kishan training in Baroda along with Pandya brothers, Hardik and Krunal started doing the rounds, “perplexed” Pathan question the wicketkeeper-batter for missing domestic matches.
“Finding it perplexing how someone can be fit enough to practice but not play domestic cricket. How does this even make sense?” Pathan tweeted.
For the unversed, Kishan took a break before the South Africa Test series in December 2023. As revealed by India head coach Rahul Dravid, he is yet to make himself available for selection. Dravid also had said that Kishan would have to play competitive cricket before getting considered for India selection.
However, the 25-year-old has not played a single game in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season yet. He almost missed Jharkhand’s recent clash versus Haryana.
In Kishan’s absence, India are playing with KS Bharat as their wicket-keeper in the ongoing Test series against England. While Bharat has done well with the gloves, his batting performance in the first two games was sub-par.
As for Kishan, he is expected to return to action in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
