[Saba Sports News] Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir came down hard on the Australia captain Pat Cummins, saying that he does not warrant a place in the playing XI.
Commentating during the Australia vs South Africa World Cup fixture, Gambhir opined that Cummins should focus on playing red-ball cricket, while Steve Smith should be handed the captaincy reins of the ODI outfit.
Notably, ever since the Sandpapergate, Smith has not returned as the full-time captain of Australia.
“Steve Smith should lead the Australian team in white ball cricket. Pat Cummins doesn’t get a spot in this ODI XI – he should continue playing red ball cricket,” Gambhir said as quoted on Star Sports.
Gambhir’s comments also came in the wake of Australia’s poor performance in the ongoing World Cup.
After losing to India, the Aussies faced another defeat on Thursday as South Africa swept them away in Lucknow. It was a complete failure on Australia’s part as they endured another massive loss of 134 runs.
Australia are yet to register a win in the 2023 World Cup. Their Net Run Rate is the second worst among all the teams. They will next face Sri Lanka in Lucknow on October 16.
