[Saba Sports News] Despite the significant expansion of Formula 1 in
recent years, including races in Asia, the Americas, Europe, and the Middle
East, there are currently no Grand Prix events held in Africa. Prior to 1993,
the Kyalami circuit in South Africa was a regular fixture on the F1 calendar.
However, after South Africa withdrew, Formula 1 races ceased to be held on the
African continent. In previous interviews, both current F1 world champions, Max
Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, expressed their aspirations for Formula 1 to
return to Africa. They dream of racing F1 cars on the African continent. FIA
President Mohammed Ben Sulayem acknowledged the historical connection between
Formula 1 and South Africa and expressed a desire for the sport to make a
comeback in Africa. He mentioned that hosting an electric championship in
Africa could be a precursor to the return of Formula 1. However, the editor
believes that it may be challenging for Formula 1 to return to Africa due to
difficulties in securing sponsors and their financial guarantees.
