[Saba Sports News] Rahul Dravid’s comments on Thursday evening took everyone by surprise when he announced that he has not yet signed the contract extension agreement with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
For the unversed, the BCCI had declared that Dravid has been retained as the India head coach along with the rest of the support staff.
However, Dravid, himself, stated that he is yet to sign the contract, adding a layer of uncertainty on the possibility of him continuing as the head coach.
“I haven’t yet signed a contract with the BCCI but had discussions on tenure. Once I get the papers, I will sign,” Dravid said as quoted to the reporters after the World Cup 2023 review meeting.
Although, the simple context of Dravid’s statement could also lie on his tenure. In other words, there is a possibility that his comments could have come as a reply to a question on his tenure, which has not been made public yet.
Notably, a few reports also mentioned the name of Ashish Nehra, stating that the BCCI first approached Gujarat Titans coach to join Team India in the same capacity. After Nehra declined the offer, the BCCI went back to Dravid, offering him a contract extension.
India’s next assignment comes in the form of a South Africa tour, where they are scheduled to play three T20Is, three ODIs and two Test matches.
