[Saba Sports News] Upon returning to New York on Saturday, Immanuel Quickley, now with the Toronto Raptors, shared his thoughts about one notable difference he’s experienced since leaving the Knicks. Quickley highlighted that the media pressure outside of New York is considerably less intense.
In a discussion with journalists, three weeks after his trade, Quickley pointed out the stark contrast in media scrutiny between New York and other places. “The media in New York is distinctly more intense,” he commented, as reported by Stefan Bondy of the New York Post. He added, “In New York, the scrutiny and attention are on another level.”
This observation by Quickley is widely acknowledged, though opinions vary on whether this characteristic is beneficial or detrimental. Quickley was well-acquainted with the New York media’s intensity, especially amid frequent trade speculations before his eventual move in the OG Anunoby deal.
The challenge of coping with New York’s media spotlight is a known struggle for many athletes. Quickley managed well, proving to be a valuable reserve player for the Knicks. However, he now seems more at ease in his starting position with Toronto, enjoying a somewhat softer media focus.
