[Saba Sports News] Ahead of IPL 2024, the Kolkata Knight Riders have strategically signed Sri Lankan fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera to replace Gus Atkinson, who pulled out of the tournament. Chameera, who remained unsold in the auction, joins KKR at his base price of INR 50 lakh. With a history of playing for Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Lucknow Super Giants, the 32-year-old brings significant pace to the team.
The Indian Premier League’s official Twitter account announced this update, highlighting Chameera’s inclusion in the KKR squad. His recent performance in a T20 match for Dubai Capitals, where he impressed with his speed and bounce, underlines his potential to enhance KKR’s bowling attack with his ability to exceed speeds of 140kph.
Meanwhile, the departure of 26-year-old English pacer Atkinson from the IPL roster follows a demanding winter schedule managed by the England and Wales Cricket Board, including the World Cup in India and tours in the Caribbean.
Chameera, who has played 12 IPL matches and taken nine wickets with an economy of 8.73, adds depth alongside Mitchell Starc, KKR’s premier overseas fast bowler acquired for INR 24.75 crore. As the IPL 2024 season approaches, scheduled from March 22 to May end, fans and teams alike are keen to see how these adjustments will influence the competition. The final schedule will be confirmed in alignment with India’s general election dates, to be announced by the Election Commission.
