[Saba Sports News] After recently reclaiming the top spot in the Western Conference from the Denver Nuggets, the Minnesota Timberwolves could soon receive a significant lift.
During a Monday appearance on FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back,” The Athletic’s Shams Charania provided an important update regarding Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns’ injury status. Charania disclosed that Towns had taken part in his first team scrimmage since the injury the previous Sunday, indicating that his return is imminent. Furthermore, there is optimism within the Timberwolves organization that Towns will be back before the regular season concludes on April 14.
Towns, the former first overall draft pick, has been sidelined since March 4 due to a torn meniscus in his left knee that required surgery. Despite his absence, the Timberwolves have managed well, posting an 11-5 record in this period, with Naz Reid filling in admirably in the starting lineup. Currently, Minnesota is tied with Denver for the Western Conference’s best record at 54-24, holding the tiebreaker over Denver, with only four games remaining.
Towns, who was averaging 22.1 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game prior to his injury, has made remarkable recovery progress in just over five weeks. After hinting at his return on social media, Towns appears to be gearing up for one or two warm-up games before the Timberwolves start their playoff campaign.
