[Saba Sports News] The New York Knicks are reportedly contemplating a change in their roster composition. According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Knicks are open to the idea of trading guard Immanuel Quickley. This consideration follows a significant discrepancy in contract extension negotiations between Quickley and the Knicks last summer. Additionally, it’s believed that Quickley aspires to a starting role in the future.
At 24, Quickley has established himself as a strong contender, being a finalist for the Sixth Man of the Year Award last season and known as one of the league’s top bench scorers. This season, he’s achieving career highs, averaging 15.0 points per game and 22.5 points per 36 minutes. However, without a rookie extension from the Knicks before this season, Quickley will become a restricted free agent in 2024.
The Knicks have younger guards in their lineup, like Quentin Grimes and Miles McBride, who might be able to match Quickley’s bench contributions. Coupled with the team’s current challenge of having an overloaded offense, the decision to trade Quickley, particularly before his value increases, appears to be a strategic move for the Knicks.
