[Saba Sports News] Malik Monk’s 2023-24 season might have concluded prematurely following a knee injury sustained during the Sacramento Kings’ recent game against the Dallas Mavericks.
In an attempt to defend against Luka Doncic, Monk collided forcefully with him, resulting in an awkward landing and subsequent inward bend of his knee. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that Monk suffered a sprained right MCL and is anticipated to be sidelined for four to six weeks.
This setback comes at a crucial time for Monk, who has been a pivotal player for the Kings this season, contending for the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year Award with notable contributions in scoring and playmaking off the bench. With the regular season ending soon and the Kings positioned at No. 8 in the Western Conference, Monk’s absence poses challenges for the team’s postseason aspirations.
Despite Sacramento’s potent offense led by De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, overcoming Monk’s absence alongside recent losses will undoubtedly be a formidable challenge.
