On Wednesday, Mohammad Nabi of Afghanistan dethroned
Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh as the top-ranked all-round player in the ICC
rankings. Shakib has been in this role for more than five years before this.
Due to an eye ailment, Shakib will not participate for
Bangladesh in their forthcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka. He hasn’t
played for the country since the ODI World Cup in India last year. However, he
has played in the current Bangladesh Premier League season for Rangpur Riders.
After scoring 136 against Sri Lanka in the first ODI
of the three-match series in Pallekele, Nabi took the top rank. Afghanistan
rallied from 55 for 5 thanks to Nabi’s century at No. 7 and Azmatullah
Omarzai’s undefeated 149, but they were still defeated by 42 runs. In the
match, Nabi also claimed a wicket, which helped him climb one spot to seventh
in the ICC’s most recent ODI bowlers’ rating.
Left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj of South Africa
continues to lead the bowlers, while Dilshan Madushanka of Sri Lanka climbs
four spots to 33rd and Wanindu Hasaranga of Sri Lanka gains 14 spots to tie
26th.
After scoring an undefeated 97 in the second ODI,
Charith Asalanka of Sri Lanka moved up five spots to take 15th place in the
batting order. Following his undefeated 210 in the first round, Pathum Nissanka
shot up ten spots to be in 18th place.
Kyle Jamieson, a quick bowler from New Zealand, moved
up six spots to ninth on the Test bowling chart after taking six wickets in the
first match of the series at Mount Maunganui against South Africa.
Additionally, he rose two spots to rank 13th among Test all-rounders.
