[Saba Sports News] India pacer Mohammad Shami’s exceptional performance in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 semi final 1 against New Zealand has once again brought attention to his personal life. Shami’s estranged wife, Hasin Jahan, made noteworthy comments regarding his dual role as a player and family man.
Jahan claimed that they could have led a good life if Shami also excelled as a husband and a father, which he did not, as per her.
“If he were also a good person, as good a player as he is, we could have led a good life. My daughter, my husband, and I could have led a happy life if he were a good person. And it would be even more a matter of respect and honour if he were not only a good player but also a good husband and a good father,” said Shami’s ex-wife as quoted by India Today.
Despite the accolades for Shami’s on-field achievements, Jahan highlighted the challenges their family faces due to his alleged mistakes, greed, and what she referred to as a “dirty mind”. She claimed that Shami attempts to overshadow his negative qualities with financial gestures.
“But due to Shami’s mistakes, due to greed, and due to his dirty mind, the three of us have to face the consequences. However, he is trying to hide his negative points through money,” she added.
In response to Shami’s outstanding seven-wicket haul, Jahan maintained a measured stance, stating that while she did not feel anything special, she was pleased with India’s victory. She extended her best wishes for India’s success in the final.
“I don’t feel anything special. But it feels good that India has won the semi-final match. I pray that India wins the final as well,” she added.
When questioned about actress-turned-politician Payal Ghosh’s marriage proposal to Shami after his remarkable performance against Sri Lanka, Jahan chose not to delve into the matter, stating, “These things keep happening to celebrities. It’s normal. I don’t want to comment on it.”
Shami’s outstanding World Cup performance, consisting of 23 wickets in six matches at an average of 9.13, underscores his exceptional contribution to the team.
However, the fast-bowler has been entangled in a tumultuous legal battle, facing accusations of domestic violence, adultery, match-fixing and marital rape by his estranged wife. This led Shami to contemplate suicide, and an FIR was lodged against him at the Jadavpur police station. Nonetheless, he was granted bail by the Alipore Court in September 2023.
