[Saba Sports News] Najmul Hossain Shanto has been appointed as the 16th ODI captain of Bangladesh by the Bangladesh Cricket Board. He will lead the team in the final game of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand, scheduled for September 26 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
New Zealand currently leads the series 1-0 after an 86-run victory in the second ODI, with the first match being abandoned due to rain.
Bangladesh has made several changes to the squad for the third ODI, with Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, and Shoriful Islam returning after being rested for the first two games.
With the ICC World Cup on the horizon, this game marks the end of Bangladesh’s experimentation with the team. Mahmudullah’s impressive performance in the second game, where he scored a career-saving 49 runs, strongly suggests his inclusion in the 15-member World Cup squad.
The team management had tested various players in Mahmudullah’s place since he was rested from ODIs following the home series against England. Mahmudullah’s excellent performance in the second game against New Zealand showcased his readiness to contribute effectively to the team.
