Sports News] According to reports from Italian media, the entire Napoli team
kneeled before the start of a Serie A match as a protest against racism and in
support of Juan Jesus. In their 30th round match against Atalanta, which took
place at their home stadium, Napoli players collectively knelt before the game
to demonstrate their opposition to racism. This form of protest, commonly known
as taking a knee, has been prevalent in American sports in the past, and Napoli
aimed to emphasize their resolute stance of “saying no to racism.”
Previously, Napoli defender Juan Jesus had made allegations of racial remarks
made against him by Acerbi, but the Italian Football Association Sports
Tribunal acquitted Acerbi due to insufficient evidence. Napoli expressed strong
dissatisfaction with this decision. The club removed Serie A’s official
anti-racism slogan from their jerseys and instead chose to protest against
racism in their own way.
