[Saba Sports News] New Zealand is set to embark on their third tour to Pakistan in 17 months, with a five-match T20I series lined up from April 18 to 27, as confirmed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The initial three matches will take place in Rawalpindi, followed by the concluding two in Lahore. The Kiwi squad is expected in Pakistan by April 14.
Coinciding with the Indian Premier League, the series might see the absence of key New Zealand players who are participating in the IPL, similar to last year’s overlap. Key players like Kane Williamson with Gujarat Titans, and others such as Daryl Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Devon Conway, Glenn Phillips, Trent Boult, and Lockie Ferguson, who are contracted with various IPL teams, might not feature in the Pakistan series.
Usman Wahla, PCB’s Director of International Cricket, emphasized the significance of the tour, highlighting the strong cricketing relationship between Pakistan and New Zealand.
“This tour symbolises the deep-rooted ties and mutual respect that define the relationship between our two cricketing nations,” Wahla said. “Our avid cricket fans and the people of Pakistan will welcome the New Zealand team again and we hope to have yet another competitive series which is a key part of our buildup to this year’s ICC T20 World Cup.”
He expressed anticipation for a competitive series that will also serve as preparation for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, acknowledging the enthusiasm of Pakistani cricket fans and the expected warm reception for the visiting New Zealand team.
