[Saba Sports News] This week, Magic Johnson experienced a light-hearted callout over a mistake he made on social media. The Basketball Hall of Famer and former NBA executive posted on his X page about the Indiana Pacers’ recent trade for All-Star Pascal Siakam. In his post, Johnson mistakenly credited Pacers GM Chad Buchanan for the trade, praising it as a great move.
However, it was actually Kevin Pritchard, the Pacers’ president of basketball operations, who is responsible for such decisions, not Buchanan. Pritchard humorously pointed out Johnson’s error with a sarcastic reply: “Eh hem…yeah great trade Chad!”
The confusion around the Pacers’ front office structure might be common for the average fan, but Johnson’s mistake is somewhat surprising given his own background as an NBA executive with the Los Angeles Lakers from 2017-19. The Pritchard-Buchanan hierarchy was established during Johnson’s tenure with the Lakers, and he had even faced a tampering fine involving a Pacers player.
Despite this oversight, Johnson’s X page is typically appreciated for its entertainment value rather than detailed analysis. Pritchard’s playful response added to the entertainment, highlighting Johnson’s social media blunder for all to see.
