[Saba Sports News] The Pakistan Cricket Team is currently engaged in a fitness camp at the Army School of Physical Training (ASPT) in Kakul, Abbottabad, collaborating with the Pakistan Army to gear up for the forthcoming packed T20 season. Notably, 29 players, including prominent figures like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Fakhar Zaman, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Amir, and Shadab Khan, are undergoing intensive physical training.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) offered fans a glimpse into the players’ fitness drills on Monday, April 01, showcasing their dedication as they prepare for the action-packed season, including the T20 World Cup 2024. Divided into two groups, the team engaged in traditional gym sessions and outdoor training drills.
Meanwhile, in anticipation of the T20 World Cup 2024, PCB made a significant leadership change by reinstating star batter Babar Azam as the skipper. Babar had previously stepped down from captaincy across three formats following Pakistan’s failure to qualify for the ODI World Cup 2023 semi-finals.
Following his resignation, Shan Masood was appointed as the new Test skipper, while fast bowler Shaheen Afridi took on leadership duties in T20Is. However, Afridi’s debut series as skipper resulted in a disappointing 1-4 defeat against New Zealand in January 2024.
Post-series, there were administrative changes in PCB, with Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi assuming the role of chairman in February after interim chief Zaka Ashraf’s resignation in January.
Babar’s re-appointment as skipper faced criticism from legendary Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi, who advocated for Mohammad Rizwan as a better choice. Reports also suggest Shaheen’s discontent with PCB’s decision, prompting an emergency meeting with the speedster.
