[Saba Sports News] Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) faced off at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad in Match 12 of the Indian Premier League 2024.
Pat Cummins, leading SRH in IPL 2024, experienced a sense of déjà vu as he stepped into the world’s largest stadium. This was the same venue where he led Australia to a World Cup triumph, defeating hosts India on November 19, 2023.
During the toss for SRH, after winning it, Cummins fondly reminisced about his previous success on this ground and made a lighthearted reference to his earlier comment before the World Cup final against India.
He expressed his delight at returning to the stadium and the fond memories associated with it. SRH opted to bat first, citing the favorable conditions and their confidence in their abilities. Despite a promising start, SRH struggled to maintain momentum and posted a modest total of 168 runs, with their middle order collapsing.
“We are gonna bat first. Looks a good wicket and it’s very warm. So, happy to bat first. Yeah, I’ve got wonderful memories here. It was a packed-stadium last time I played here and good to be back here. It’s about the freedom. We know what we are capable of and trying to have a crack at it and see how it goes today. We are going with the same team,” Cummins said at the toss.
In response, GT chased down the target comfortably, with Sai Sudharsan and David Miller’s contributions of 45 and 44 runs, respectively, guiding them to a seven-wicket victory.
