[Saba Sports News] A Detroit Pistons player’s season has ended due to a serious health concern.
The Pistons announced on Wednesday that rookie wing Ausar Thompson will miss the remaining 14 games of the season as he undergoes treatment for a blood clot.
However, there is some positive news as Thompson, aged 21, has been cleared to begin conditioning and will start non-contact basketball activities after the regular season concludes. He is expected to have a gradual return and aims to be fully back for the next season.
Thompson, drafted by Detroit with a lottery pick last year (No. 5 overall), showcased strong defensive skills but struggled with shooting accuracy (with shooting splits of 48/19/60). In his rookie season, Thompson averaged 8.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.
While blood clotting issues can be concerning, examples like Chris Bosh show that players can overcome them and resume successful careers. With Thompson set to recover fully for next season, it brings optimism for both him and the Pistons, who have faced challenges throughout this year.
