Sports News] The Premier League has officially announced that it will introduce
semi-automatic offside technology starting from the next season. During a
recent Premier League shareholder meeting, all clubs unanimously agreed to
implement this new system. The technology is expected to be deployed in the
Premier League for the first time after the autumn international break. The
semi-automatic offside technology will rely on optical player tracking
technology, enhancing the speed and accuracy of virtual offside line
positioning. This advancement aims to provide fans with a better on-site and
broadcast experience by generating high-quality images. The system will utilize
up to 12 dedicated cameras to track 29 data points for each player. Once the
video match official and the on-field referee confirm the decision, the exact
positional data points used to make the call will be transformed into a 3D
animation, which will precisely illustrate the position of the player’s limbs
on the field at the moment of ball contact. The introduction of semi-automatic
offside detection technology is expected to enhance the accuracy and efficiency
of offside decisions, benefiting both players and fans alike.
