Sports News] In 2020, a significant drug smuggling operation involving the
interception of cocaine took place at the Port of Antwerp. Quincy Promes, a
former Dutch international and current player for Spartak Moscow in the Russian
Premier League, was allegedly connected to this illicit activity. The total
weight of the smuggled cocaine was reported to exceed 1,350 kilograms. Two
weeks ago, a Dutch court sentenced Promes to six years in prison for his
involvement in the case. Recently, Promes had been training with Spartak Moscow
in Dubai. However, as he was preparing to fly with the team from Dubai to St.
Petersburg, he was stopped at the border control and subsequently detained at a
police station in Dubai. It is worth noting that the Netherlands does not have
an extradition treaty with Russia, which means that Promes could potentially
avoid serving his sentence if he remains in Russia. Although there is a limited
extradition treaty between the Netherlands and the UAE, Promes had obtained a
residence visa in Dubai, allowing him to freely enter and exit the country
despite his conviction in the Netherlands.
