[Saba Sports News] Agni Chopra has made history in the Ranji Trophy Plate League by becoming the first player to hit centuries in his first four first-class matches, representing Mizoram. At 25, the son of acclaimed filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra and film critic Anupama Chopra, Agni has quickly risen to prominence not just in the cricketing world but also as a beacon of pride for his family, especially following his father’s recent cinematic success with “12th Fail.”
With remarkable scores against teams like Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya, Agni leads this season’s run-scorers with 767 runs from eight innings, boasting an impressive average of 95.88 and a strike rate of 111.81. His journey to Mizoram was encouraged by his coach, Khuspreet Singh, as a strategic move to gain more playtime and showcase his cricketing prowess, given the competitive cricket environment in Mumbai.
Agni’s transition to Mizoram cricket has been smooth, with a warm welcome from teammates and locals alike, making him feel at home despite the new surroundings. He acknowledges the difference in bowling quality between the Plate League and the Elite League but remains focused on his goal of leading Mizoram to the Plate League final and securing promotion to the Elite League.
Throughout his journey, Agni has faced questions about following in his father’s cinematic footsteps, but his passion has always been cricket. He shares that his father encouraged him and his sister to excel in their chosen paths, emphasizing the importance of hard work over talent. This philosophy has guided Agni not only in cricket but in life, shaping him into a dedicated athlete determined to make his mark on the field.
