[Saba Sports News] The Golden State Warriors appear inclined to continue their collaboration with Chris Paul. Michael Scotto of HoopsHype recently reported on the Warriors’ perspective regarding the 12-time All-Star point guard.
According to Scotto, the Warriors are satisfied with Paul’s performance and integration into the team and are open to retaining him beyond this season if the terms are favorable. This decision is facilitated by the fact that young players Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody won’t be eligible for restricted free agency until the summer of 2025, providing Golden State with some roster flexibility.
Initially, there were doubts about how well Paul would fit with the Warriors, but he has effectively adjusted to a bench role, focusing mainly on facilitating the offense. Despite averaging a career-low 8.9 points, Paul contributes a solid 7.3 assists and 1.5 steals per game. He also maintains a significant presence on the court, playing about 26.8 minutes per game, and has been a valuable stand-in starter when needed, such as during Steph Curry’s recent injury.
However, concerns remain about Paul’s durability, given his age (38) and injury history in his 19th NBA season. He was recently sidelined with a nerve issue in his left leg. Paul’s current salary is $30.8 million, but it will become more affordable next season as his 2024-25 salary is non-guaranteed. With Golden State’s key players growing increasingly appreciative of Paul’s contributions, the Warriors see potential value in re-signing him at a lower cost for another year.
