[Saba Sports News] Sabrina Ionescu is ready to take on Steph Curry on an equal footing. The New York Liberty standout challenged the Golden State Warriors’ point guard to a three-point contest during the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis, Indiana, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
The NBA detailed that the competition would adhere to its traditional format, with both players facing similar challenges, including four racks of balls and opportunities for extra points through “money” balls and shots from extended range.
The primary difference in the contest’s setup was that Curry would be using NBA basketballs and shooting from the NBA three-point line, while Ionescu was initially set to use WNBA balls and the league’s shorter three-point line. Nevertheless, Ionescu announced her intention to compete from the NBA three-point line, aligning her challenge with Curry’s conditions. She expressed her enthusiasm on X, stating her readiness to shoot from the longer NBA distance.
The NBA three-point line measures 23 feet, 9 inches, narrowing to just over 22 feet in the corners, whereas the WNBA line is set at 22 feet, 1.75 inches, with a similar adjustment in the corners. This showdown has been eagerly anticipated, especially since Ionescu set a record with a score of 37 in a previous contest, fueling friendly banter between the two basketball stars.
